Today, you are going to visit two remarkable ancient villages - Hongcun and Xidi which are the best examples of ancient Huizhou-style architecture, and listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Unlike other traditional ancient villages in China, Hongcun and Xidi, which retain their original characteristics in layout, landscape, architectural form, decoration and construction techniques, are more exquisite and grand because they were built by successful officials or businessmen returning from business.
Hongcun and Xidi are the most representative villages of Huizhou folk houses, known as "villages in Chinese painting" reputation.
The Oscar-winning foreign language film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was filmed here - Nanhu Bridge outside the village. From the whole appearance, Hongcun is a strange cow-shaped ancient village, the water canal, the south lake, the moon marsh are the three classic scenery in the village. Here you can quietly sketch and paint, you can drill the alley to shoot or sit on the side of the South Lake, watching the weeping willows and sinking into the painting.
Xidi Village is only about 10km from Hongcun. A world cultural heritage site, is a bright pearl on the Huangshan tourism line, and the traffic is very convenient. She is full of peaks and beautiful scenery, and still retains more than 300 ancient dwellings in the Ming and Qing dynasties, of which 124 are preserved simple and complete, known as "people in the peach blossom source".
