Lhasa’s Sho Dun Festival, alternately spelled “Shoton”, is one of the most important traditional festivals in Tibet. This festival celebrates the traditional Tibetan year and people engage in grand celebrations including prayers, dancing and singing. It is an important social and religious event and a time to showcase Tibetan culture and unite the people.
On the first day of the festival, the crowning jewel is the giant Thanka painting hung at Drepung Monastery. The rest of the festival is held primarily on the grounds of the Norbulingka Palace, with locals and visitors alike filing in to partake and enjoy the celebrations.
We will also visit Norbulingka Palace. It's like a stunning ancient building surrounded by a beautiful garden. Inside, you can discover many valuable historical items and treasures.
